At the core of RMHC Sydney’s mission is the belief that when families are together, they cope better. Chair Christina Sachs Phillips and the incredible House Committee of Robyn Catinella, Bruce Keebaugh, Lauren Kozica, Tania Madsen, Lucy Middleton and Patrick Telfer are all deeply passionate about Ronald McDonald House Charities Sydney because they collectively share the profound understanding that family is at the core of our lives.
The members of our committee have 13 children between us and the mere thought of ever having to hear the devastating words of a serious diagnosis for our own children or a friend’s child is every parent’s most haunting nightmare. The added burden of having to travel over 100 km+ to receive treatment, the worry of finding accommodation, the financial strain, and the anguish of separating from the rest of the family, are unimaginable. These thoughts are the driving force behind our commitment to RMHC Sydney and underpin our efforts to raise awareness, secure essential funding, and enhance the House that serves as a home-away-from-home for so many families. Because of our incredible community, sponsors and donors, Ronald McDonald House Charities Sydney has been able to be there for families in some of their darkest times since 1991. The warm and supportive home-away-from-home provides the whole family with a comfortable place to stay and peace of mind, knowing they can be together and stay close to their child in hospital. It is more than just a bed to sleep in, it’s a home cooked meal to share, or packaged to take to a child’s hospital bedside. It is access to tutoring to ensure kids don’t fall behind, a listening ear, supportive advice, and life-long friendship.
It’s a place to call home. A home filled with warmth and hope, to alleviate some of the burden.
This year, we are aiming to raise a minimum of $2 Million dollars to help RMHC Sydney and the families. This year’s fundraising will have a two-prong approach where half of the funds will be allocated to The Everyday Difference Pledge, which will continue to help make an everyday difference by providing the necessary funds to run the House and cover the cost for families to stay. The other half of the funds raised will be invested in the future through The Legacy Pledge which will help secure the build of a new House for the Randwick Chapter.
